I was pleased to find out that Erin offered both raw and steamed encapsulation, as well as salve and tincture products. She sent along a very sophisticated/chic cooler in which to store the placenta. The directions were very clear and easy to follow. I found Erin to be reliable, professional, helpful, and genuine.

Additional Information
Why Placenta Encapsulation?
It is believed that placenta consumption can:
Reduce the risk of postpartum depression or “baby blues”
Replenishing iron from blood loss during birth and prevention of post birth anemia in the mother
Lending a consistent flow of oxytocin (the love hormone) long after the birth euphoria ends
Provides the HPL hormone to help establish early and healthy milk supply for breastfeeding
Stabilizes constantly fluctuating hormones post birth
Replenishes B vitamins and energy that were used during the labor and birth process
Protection from infection and bleeding due to retained placenta tissue or membranes
Offers natural pain relief from the labor and birth process via the hormone POEF (placenta opioid enhancing factor)
The Process
When you book services, you can be confident that your placenta will be handled in a professional, responsible manner. I have taken an in-person hands-on training and I have taken bloodborne pathogen training.
All handling and cleaning is conducted carefully and thoroughly.
The process of encapsulating your placenta is simple. Upon receipt of the deposit (prior to 38 weeks) I will mail you a collapsible cooler bag*. This cooler can be placed in your birth bag and will go with you to the hospital.
Once the baby is born, you contact me and I will come pick it up for you. Within three days, I will return the capsules to you.
*If you book after 38 weeks you will need to supply your own cooler for use in the hospital.
Services
Unsteamed Encapsulation ("Raw"): $300
Some people choose this method because they are raw food activists and believe the cooking or steaming process destroys some of the nutrients. One benefit to choosing the RAW method is that it provides a higher number of capsules as there is no shrinkage from the steaming process. This is why it is also called the “high yield method.” Includes a convenient, collapsible cooler that is mailed to you prior to 38 weeks.
Steamed Encapsulation (Traditional Chinese Medicine Inspired “TCM”): $300
This method of preparing the placenta for encapsulation involves gently steaming the placenta. Herbs can be added upon request. TCM is believed to have tonifying, healing, and warming properties. Just like cooking any food, the steaming process causes some nutrient loss (into the water below) and the placenta shrinks a bit. Because of this, the TCM method will yield less capsules than the raw method. This method is recommended for people who are prone to anxiety or nervous disorders. Includes a convenient, collapsible cooler that is mailed to you prior to 38 weeks.
Tincture: $25 or 2 for $40
The placenta tincture is another way to reap the physical benefits from the placenta besides capsule form. Tinctures are mainly meant for energy, transition, stress, and hormone stabilization. They are great for returning menstrual cycles, menopause, and even puberty. The biological mother and daughter of the birthing mom can also benefit from the tincture as it has an almost indefinite shelf life if stored properly. Mom may also give the tincture to a baby older than 6 months for teething and transition. The tincture is made from a thumbnail size piece of raw placenta and 100-150 proof vodka, aged for 6 weeks postpartum and then strained. It is stored in a dropper bottle much like the Bach Flower Essences.
Smoothie Prep: $35
Utilizing the placenta, unsteamed, directly after birth is becoming an extremely popular and important step in a new mother’s postpartum healing. You can use your favorite green or fruit smoothie recipe, or I can provide suggestions for you. A small thumbnail piece of raw placenta is easily blended in with any juice or smoothie recipe and Mother’s report that the taste of the small placenta piece is unnoticeable! If you are having a home birth, I can prepare a smoothie for you when I come by to pick up your placenta. For all birth locations, this option is available for placentas released within 48 hours after birth. 14 pieces are individually prepared, wrapped, and stored for use. This preparation yields enough for 2 smoothies a day for the first week. This is a great natural remedy for postpartum bleeding, works very rapidly, and often replaces pharmaceutical means of managing bleeding. Other benefits include rapid replacement of hormones, nutrients, and iron which aids in post-partum wellness.
Organic Healing Salve: 4oz: $35
The placenta salve has many uses. It is used to heal Cesarean section incision after the wound is closed and lessen scarring, itching and discomfort. The salve can also be used as soon as 3 days postpartum for hemorrhoids, perennial tearing, burns, diaper rash, eczema, sun burns and skin irritations. It is safe for your baby as long as the baby has no skin allergies. The salve can be made with or without placenta in it.
