What is a Doula?
I provide you with one-on-one, personalized support through your pregnancy and birth. Together, we will work to realize your vision for birth and I will help you work toward making your birth a satisfying experience.
Women have complex needs during childbirth and the weeks that follow. In addition to medical care and the love and companionship provided by their partners, women need consistent, continuous reassurance, comfort, encouragement and respect. They need individualized care based on their circumstances and preferences.
A Birth Doula:
-Recognizes birth as a key experience the mother will remember all her life
-Perceives her role as nurturing and protecting the woman's memory of the birth experience
-Understands the physiology of birth and the emotional needs of a woman in labor
-Assists the woman in preparing for and carrying out her plans for birth
-Stays with the woman throughout the labor
-Provides emotional support, informational support, physical comfort measures and
an objective viewpoint
Doula Packages
Every doula client receives the following:
-Complimentary interview to determine if we are a good fit for each other and an assessment of what your personal needs are
-Prenatal visits to review your birth preferences, birth plan, comfort techniques, postpartum support plan, infant care and breastfeeding
-Birth support when you request me. I will meet you at your home or hospital to provide labor support when you feel that you need it
-Postpartum support is provided immediately following delivery
-Postpartum follow-up visit is provided one week after delivery
-E-mail and phone availability throughout your pregnancy
-24 hour phone support starting at 38 weeks up until your birth
During the initial consultation, we will review what your specific needs are and I will custom-build a package for you. Available options include additional prenatal visits, placenta encapsulation and childbirth education.
